What Should I Expect In A Worship Service?

We offer a blended style of worship. Each worship service is formatted in such a way that we give equal emphasis to the preaching of the word, the singing of praises, the lifting up of prayers, giving to the advancement of God’s kingdom, and remembering what our Savior Jesus Christ has done for us..

WORSHIP IS...

Worship is living in relationship with the God of creation and redemption with adoration, praise and obedience.  As Warren Wiersbe says,

“Worship is the believer’s response of all that he is -
mind, emotions, will and body – to all that God is and
says and does.  This response has its mystical side in
subjective experience, and its practical side in obedience to God’s truth.”

At Central, we believe worship is where we meet God: personally, as a family and as a church.  Worship fuels the growth of a believer: as we spend time in His presence, He changes us! (2 Corinthians 3:16-18).   Worship is at the heart of service to God by believers: in view of His mercy we serve Him! (Romans 12:1).  Worship is the engine that drives us to “declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among the peoples!” (Psalm 96:3).
We have built our worship ministry around preparing first our own hearts and minds for transformative worship, and then joining together our hearts in genuine experiences of praise.  We want to provide tools that will assist you in your worship journey on this page, so you can grow in your personal relationship with God and be ready to worship as a congregation in a “passionate, zealous, uninhibited, all-out engagement with the presence and character of God.” (Rory Noland).
Have questions about worship?  Want to join us in the journey?  Contact us – we’d love to sit down and talk about our God over a great cup of coffee!

HOW DO I WORSHIP?

HERE ARE THE MATERIALS OF WORSHIP; THE TOOLS GOD MAKES AVAILABLE TO US TO MEET HIM, WALK WITH HIM, WORK FOR HIM AND TALK ABOUT HIM WELL.
  1. The Word: focus, discover and respond
  2. Prayer: talk to God in private or gathered with believers.
  3. Music and the arts: give praise to Him, about Him and to one another through song and visual expression.
  4.  Service: offer to God time, talents and treasure freely, sacrificially & joyfully.
  5. Attitude: develop a heart of humility, love, submission and obedience.
  6.  Fellowship: share greetings, symbols, encouragement, exhortation and ministry.

HERE’S ANOTHER WAY TO LOOK AT IT.  WHEN YOU LOVE SOMEONE:
You listen to them: So – we read the Word, so we can listen to God.
You talk to them: So – we Pray, and talk to God (in private or gathered with believers)
You brag on them!  So – we sing & act & dance for God (Music and the arts): It’s a way to give praise to Him, about Him through song and visual expression.
You’ll do anything for them: So – we serve by giving God time, talents and treasure freely, sacrificially & joyfully.
You are tender toward them: so our attitude is right toward them: develop a heart of humility, love, submission and obedience.
You love to hang out with them!  So fellowship is a thing: shared greetings, symbols, encouragement, exhortation and ministry.

AND FOR YOU “PICTURE” PEOPLE – WHO REALLY NEED A METAPHOR, TRY THIS ONE:

THE ANATOMY OF WORSHIP
  • The Word is the mind of worship: presenting the truth about God
  • Meditation is the breath of worship: understanding and applying the truth of God
  • Prayer is the mouth of worship: responding to God; praising God
  • Service  becomes the hands of worship: presenting offerings to God
  •  Music is the heart of worship: expressing our emotions to God
  • Art is the eye of worship: showing the world our beautiful God
  • Our attitude is the spirit of worship: Respecting and adoring God
